FESTIVAL SCHEDULE
Workshop :: Intro to Yorchha™ with Ananya Dance Theatre
Thursday, May 9
10:30am – 12:00pm
KST’s Alloy Studios, Downstairs
Ananya Dance Theatre’s signature movement style Yorcha™ emerged from deep research on the aesthetics, histories and philosophy of Odissi, Chhau and Vinyasa Yoga. In this master class, you will encounter the basic vocabulary of ADT’s dance form, characterized by a deep relationship to the floor, fast and intricate footwork, upper body spirals, sculptural balances, and subtle and active movements. Yorchha™ is anchored by social justice and the spirit of Dakini—traditionally embodied by destruction, chaos and ultimately transformation— and invokes our gentle warrior in an arc towards equity.
Open to movers of all levels; please wear fitted dance wear, and be prepared to work in bare feet.

Ananya Dance Theatre :: Shaatraga: Women Weaving Worlds
Friday, May 10
8:00pm
Kelly Strayhorn Theater
Shaatranga: Women Weaving Worlds draws on histories of connectivity among the global South that pre-date colonization and slavery: links that threaded communities across Asia and Africa along Indian Ocean trade routes. In this thought-provoking dance, both indigo and denim serve as metaphors for the forces of global commerce that fall differently on our skin. Ananya Dance Theatre returns to KST—after captivating audiences with its expansive approach to contemporary Indian dance last fall. Chatterjea’s is widely recognized for her ritualistic performances and the depth of her community-building process, one that insists that the role of both women’s rage and their spiritual ecstasy be seen in the arc towards equity.

Workshop :: Moving Your Experience of Loss
Sunday, May 12
11:30am to 1pm
KST’s Alloy Studios, Upstairs
This workshop focuses on ways that art can help us extract inner turmoil and grief, placing it within a form—generating movement, sound and physical artifacts that can offer healing. Led by musician, Li Harris, poet S. Brook Corfman and choreographer Joan Wagman, participants engage with a series of activities adapted from diverse rituals and ceremonies. Movement offers connection with the body, writing becomes a rite, and the voice becomes an embodiment of release. Resonant with traditions Judaism and other systems of faith belief, this is a space where pain can recognized, honored and transformed.
