Kelly Strayhorn Theater
Kelly Strayhorn Theater is an intimate, 350-seat multiple-use performance venue. A celebrated part of Pittsburgh’s architectural and entertainment heritage, the Kelly Strayhorn Theater is a stage for local/regional artists and arts organizations to take risks and present new work. The theater and lobby are great for performances, screenings, meetings, and other special events.
KST’s Alloy Studios
KST’s Alloy Studios are two newly renovated studio spaces designed to accommodate exclusive public performance events, classes, workshops, rehearsals, and much more. The ground floor studio features an LED theatrical lighting plot, professional sound, and sprung dance floor. The upstairs studio is a spacious, mirrored dance studio that overlooks Penn and Stratford Avenues. Both studios are wheelchair accessible.
KST’s Alloy studios are open for rentals! To best meet the needs of the artistic community during this challenging time, we are opening our studios for one to three person rentals and tapings and we’ve lowered rental rates to $20/hour for both weekday and weekend at KST’s Alloy Studios.
As we have adapted to keep our community healthy, rentals are limited to weekdays from 10am – 6pm and weekends are available on a case by case basis. Please stay turned for communication about our theater rentals later in 2021. Finally, we ask that all prospective renters read through our new updated guidelines below prior to requesting space. KEEPING SAFE: STUDIO RENTALS
Kelly Strayhorn Theater is resuming on-site studio rentals effective Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Both the Alloy upstairs and downstairs studio will be available for use. We have implemented various protocols and procedures to ensure the protection of all individuals passing through our doors. Please help us all stay safe by abiding by our community agreements. Social distancing measures have changed the way we rent studios so please read all of the very important information below.
To best meet the needs of the artistic community during this challenging time, we’ve lowered rental rates for all studios to $20/hour.
Please use this form to rent studio space. Note that all rental rehearsal inquiries must be submitted 72 hours in advance.
Due to COVID-19 social distancing requirements, all rehearsals will be limited to solos, duets and one on one classes. If an artist is under the age of 18 and requires that a guardian be present, one guardian may be admitted into the studio.

Prior to Your Rental
Please complete this digital COVID-19 screening questionnaire NO MORE than 4hrs before your rental.
All individual rental occupants must complete this questionnaire in order to be granted entry into a KST operated space.
In addition to completing the COVID-19 screening questionnaire, you are required to sign and return KST’s COVID-19 Waiver before entering a KST operated space. Please Note: KST’s COVID-19 wavier will be emailed to you by a KST Staff member and only needs to be signed once as it will remain on file with us. However, the COVID-19 Screening Questionnaire MUST be completed NO MORE than four hours before EACH rental commences.
Entry to Building
Please make sure to ring the buzzer to the right of the Alloy doors. A KST team member will let you in through our contactless intercom. All renters are required to fill out the COVID-19 questionnaire every time you rent. If you have accessibility needs, please note that all KST’s Alloy Studios are accessible by wheelchair.
Please wash or sanitize your hands once you gain entry into the Alloy building. Sanitizer is available at the front desk when you walk in.
While in Studio/Building
Masks that cover both nose and mouth must be worn at all times, including during rehearsals. Gaiters and bandanas are not considered appropriate face coverings. Any staff member may enter the studio during your rehearsal to ensure that masks are being worn. No guests/visitors are allowed. Renters are encouraged to not eat in the studios, however please stay hydrated and drink while practicing social distancing. Please do not roam around the building or use any space other than your dedicated studio.
Access to Restrooms
Please use the restroom closest to your studio. Each floor has a restroom. The Alloy’s upstairs studio has a restroom within the studio. Please wash your hands for at least 20 seconds and use hand sanitizer. Please do not roam around the building.
To help us provide the lowest rates possible we ask you to do the following:
- Studios will be staffed with disinfecting spray and wipes, please spray the studio with disinfecting spray and wipe any surfaces you touched.
- Studios will be staffed with a broom, a mop and a mop bucket along with filling instructions. Please sweep and mop the floor after use and before leaving.
We are living in a rapidly changing environment, as such these guidelines are subject to change. If necessary, rentals may need to be adjusted and a staff member will contact you.
