When a rehearsal rental is canceled 7 or more days in advance a full refund of the rental payment will be issued.
Q: Can I host a private or public event?
The Place to Space program does not subsidize events; however, we encourage you to contact the organization you are working with to request costs and other details about hosting an event.
For a more efficient booking process, we encourage you to include both your event rental and rehearsal space interests within the same rental form submission.
Q: What do you mean when you say “artist”?
The Place to Space program is intended to serve individuals who create artistic products. The program also benefits 501(c)(3) organizations with budgets under $75,000.
Q: Crediting Language
By participating in Place to Space, you agree to credit the program in all publicity, promotion, and advertising related to any work you develop. Please use the following acknowledgment: “[Name of artistic product] was developed with support from Place to Space, a program of Kelly Strayhorn Theater, PearlArts Movement & Sound, and Attack Theatre with funding from The Heinz Endowments.”
Q: Required Artist Survey
Each lead artist will be required to sign an agreement with the corresponding organization to reserve your time in the studio. As part of the agreement, every lead artist is required to complete a Place to Space Artist Survey at the end of their contracted rental. Every contract term requires a newly completed survey. This requirement will be included in each organization’s agreements with artists so the program’s success can be tracked, informing our report to funders and helping build support to continue the program.
Q: What are your goals for the Place to Space program?
What We Will Do
- Provide affordable rehearsal space for about 100 artists each year, covering roughly 1,170–1,590 hours across our three partner organizations.
- Track how access to subsidized space supports artists as they get ready for performances, auditions, commissions, or funded projects, while also keeping an eye on how the program affects our partner organizations’ budgets.
What We Expect to See
- Artists make good use of the space and share, through short follow-up surveys, that the program helped them prepare their work, offered good-quality space, and eased financial strain. When artists choose to share demographic information, we expect to see growing participation from people who have historically had limited access to professional rehearsal space.
- Artists feel better prepared for important opportunities in their careers, and our partners are able to sustain the program financially over time.

Place to Space is made possible through support from The Heinz Endowments and contributions from individuals from each organization.
