What does it mean to be a Black bisexual man in America, one who grew up immersed in Black culture, loving Black people, yet knowing that society would try to force him to choose between being gay or straight? And as someone raised in the church, despite the teachings that may have shaped his feelings about himself, he maintains a steadfast and profound faith in his spirituality?
A Conversation. by multi-disciplinary artist LaTrea Derome explores the vantage point of often quieted, dismissed, and overlooked Black bisexual men. Through dynamic dance and the presence of Black bodies, it weaves a powerful soundscape shaped by the voices of Bi-Black men sharing their truths — a resonant declaration: We are still here. Let’s talk about it.

As you witness A Conversation., I invite you to lean into curiosity rather than judgement, to sit with what resonates and what challenges you, and to hold space for the fullness of these experiences. Let this be a place to listen, reflect, and begin or continue a conversation.

- ABOUT THE ARTISTS
LaTrea Derome is a performing artist, creator, and educator based in Pittsburgh. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, LaTrea is a 2014 graduate of Point Park University where he obtained his BA in Theater Arts while minoring in dance. Upon graduation, he has performed and worked locally with Pittsburgh CLO, City Theatre, and Pittsburgh Public Theater, and has also performed with The Classical Theater of Harlem in their 2024 production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. LaTrea was also a company dancer with PearlArts Movement and Sound for ten seasons, performing nationally and internationally, and also served as Rehearsal Director for his last three seasons.
Savionne Chambers is a Baltimore-based artist with a background in dance and visual art. She began her artistic education in theater before focusing on classical ballet through the T.W.I.G.S program at the Baltimore School for the Arts. Under Norma Perra, she performed in productions like Serenade and The Nutcracker. After graduating in 2015, she studied at Orlando Ballet School and Point Park University, graduating in 2020. Post-graduation, she has collaborated with Firewall Dance Theater, Pittsburgh Opera, and Attack Theatre, and has served as a teaching artist in various Pittsburgh schools.
Ethan Gwynn is a dynamic performer and educator whose work spans a diverse range of dance disciplines. Originally from State College, Pennsylvania, he began his formal training at the Performing Arts School of Central Pennsylvania. He continued to refine his artistry in New York City at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the French Ballet Academy. Ethan has performed with a wide array of companies, including Project 44, Tanz Theater, Pennsylvania Dance Workshop, Staycee Pearl Dance Project, Mystic India, Sleep No More, Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, and Attack Theatre. He has collaborated with distinguished artists such as Matthew Rushing, Nicholas Villeneuve, Nai-Ni Chen, Earl Mosley, and Bill T. Jones. Now based in Pittsburgh, Ethan continues to perform, teach, and collaborate with local companies and theaters.
Andraya Rand-Mathis is a choreographer, dancer, and educator who was born and raised in the city of Pittsburgh. She has choreographed several musical productions, which have won Gene Kelly Awards for Best Choreography. After 10+ years of dancing, Andraya had the opportunity to work with some amazing local Pittsburgh dance companies and had the chance to choreograph on a national level. Draya has had the opportunity to work with some amazing artists such as Kaylin Horgan, Greer Reed, Staycee Pearl, Kontara Morphis, and Anthony Williams.
Calina Womack is a Pittsburgh native who is a trained and developing dancer in Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Modern, Afro-fusion, Majorette, Konpa, and African dance. She has danced with Ron K Brown/ Evidence, Kontara Morphis Dance Collective, Legacy Arts, Sankofa, Shona Sharif Dance Ensemble, and Staycee Pearl. She is actively teaching in the dance community at Legacy Arts Project and Sankofa Village for the Arts. “Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.”
