Fresh Works Preview
Providence-based National Poetry Slam competitor and emerging playwright Vatic Kuumba comes to KST to collaborate with two visionary Pittsburgh artists: vocalist and director of Groove Aesthetic, Anqwenique Wingfield; and visual artist, cultural agitator and BOOM Concepts co-founder D.S. Kinsel. Together, they will test hybrid visions for multidisciplinary, interactive and installation-based theater, with songs and scenes that explore the challenges of being young, black, ambitious and in love. Their Fresh Works project asks: How do you confront the challenges of being a black person in a white art world. How do you maintain love, grow a family and still achieve maximum success? What does it mean to be happy and successful when the systems of white supremacy actively threaten you and the ones want to protect.

Part of KST’s Fresh Works creative residency program, providing artists with space to research, explore and play, as well as production support to develop and present new works in progress.
