Join SWOON Alliance in welcoming New York-based filmmaker Tami Gold’s latest documentary, Sex Work: It’s Just a Job, to a Pittsburgh screen. The film highlights deeply human stories of sex workers and organizers leading the movement to decriminalize sex work in the United States. Through personal narratives and expert insight, the film also examines how criminalization fuels arrest, harassment, housing insecurity, and violence. Groups like Brooklyn SWOP, Red Canary Song, and Make the Road New York, alongside expert analysis from a county prosecutor and public policy economist, outline the public safety benefits of decriminalization. The film invites viewers to question who laws policing sex work are really designed to serve.
This special screening includes a post-screening talkback featuring the filmmaker, producer, subjects from the film, and local activists who helped pass the recent city ordinance reducing sex work penalties from a misdemeanor to a summary offense.
