Pittsburgh’s only contemporary dance festival is back for its fifth year.

Presented by Kelly Strayhorn Theater

KST’s newMoves festival shares new work by young choreographers from Pittsburgh and around the country. Each evening is a medley of four to five short works presented in one exciting program. Come enjoy dance and a vibrant audience that knows how to have fun!

This year, newMoves features even more special events that connect the festival artists with each other and with our terrific audiences. Featured Choreographers – Saturday

  • Alexandra Bodnarchuk
    Alexandra Bodnarchuk is a dance artist and creator of movement-based performance work. She has worked with Attack Theatre, Bricolage Production Company, and Slava Dance Company in addition to choreographing her work. Her work seeks the answer to the question “what is honesty in dance?”
  • Anthony Williams
    At the age of 16, Anthony Williams was known as a performing artist with the role of the Scarecrow in the Chicago Black Ensemble’s production of The Wiz; working with Jackie Taylor and Rueban Echos. For his artistic growth Anthony pays homage to Deeply Rooted Dance Theatre (DRDT) under the direction of Kevin “Iega” Jeff, and Gary Abbott. Anthony continues to build a relationship with DRDT on various projects and has recently been involved with the company as an emerging artist. Anthony continues his journey in Pittsburgh as a dancing artist of the August Wilson Center. He recently presented his work Wake Up Everybody in a fundraiser to support the dance ensemble. Anthony is a resident teaching artist at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater and is excited to continue moving forward in his career.
  • Jasmine Hearn
    Jasmine Hearn, a native Houstonian, graduated magna cum laude from Point Park University with her BA in Dance. She has had the wonderful opportunity to have performed premiere works by Helen Simoneau, jhon r. stronks, and Robert Battle. She has danced with the Houston Met Dance Company, Dance Alloy Theater, the August Wilson Dance Ensemble, and the Pillow Project. Jasmine currently moves with the Staycee Pearl dance project (PGH), Marjani Forte (NYC), anonymous bodies (PHIL), and creates her own work that has premiered in  TX, PA, and NY.
  • devynn emory
    devynn emory is a transgender dancer/choreographer, healer, and teacher currently living in NY. In addition to running their company devynnemory/beastproductions that umbrellas choreography, sound, text, materials, music videos, and curated themed shows, emory also dances for Headlong Dance Theater, and currently Tere O’Connor Dance. emory recently concluded a studio-residency at NYLA for the development of the full version of This Horse is not a Home, and is currently an Artist in Residence at Issue Project Room focusing on vocal, sound, and text work and its marriage with formal choreographic structures. The work you will see performed will continue into an evening length work and premiere in January at the Actors Fund.
  • Gierre Godley
    Gierre Godley is a native of Little Rock, Arkansas. While in Arkansas he trained with C. Michael Tidwell and Arleen Sugano. Gierre also had the privilege to train at the Ailey School and with Deeply Rooted Dance Production in Chicago, IL. Gierre is currently a performing artist with Nathan Trice/RITUALS and Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup, and serves as the co-artistic director of his own repertory duet company, Sobers & Godley. Recently, Gierre created PROJECT 44, an all male troupe dedicated to showcasing the beauty of male artistry throughout the arts. PROJECT 44 has performed in the STEPS Laboratory Series, the 2011 Queens Fringe Festival, and the 2011 Young Choreographers Festival, Green Space Studios Take Root Series & Green Space Blooms, The Ailey Citigroup Theater, 2011 Blaktino Festival (Bronx Academy of Art and Dance), 92Y- Buttenweiser Hall, and PEEKS presented by Thelma Hill Performing Arts Center. In 2012, PROJECT 44 embarked on its first international tour with performances at the Chorlton Arts Festival (Manchester, England) and the Centro Maxime D’Harroche (Barcelona, Spain).
  • Greer Reed
    Choreographer: Christopher Huggins. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Mr. Huggins studied under Martha Armstrong Gray at the Cambridge School of Weston (MA) as well as Andrea Herbert Major and Danny Sloan. Since his departure from the renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Mr. Huggins has worked for several years as a dance teacher and choreographer. He has staged dance concerts in numerous venues around the world, including schools in Japan, Italy, France, Switzerland, Norway, and England.
