K. Chase Patterson (Host) A native of Pittsburgh and Chief Executive Officer of Pittsburgh’s oldest Charter School, the Urban Academy, K. Chase Patterson’s mission is to prove that ALL children, particularly Black children, can learn and succeed in a student-centered, culturally relevant learning environment. After his studies at the University of Pittsburgh, his career includes establishing the Black Male Leadership Development Institute, serving as federal liaison to Congressman Mike Doyle, and opening Society Men’s Grooming Lounge. Yanlai Dance Academy is the region’s only dedicated school for Chinese dance training and Asian cultural arts education. Founded on the belief that dance is a bridge to heritage, the Academy offers a variety of classes in Chinese classical dance and modern dance styles, including K-pop. Students learn not only how to dance, but gain an understanding of history, regional traditions, and the values embedded in minority folk and classical dances. Dreams of Hope empowers the region’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, asexual, and allied (LGBTQA+) youth through the arts, creating a welcoming environment where they grow in confidence, express themselves, and develop as leaders. Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse is a non-profit that inspires creativity, conservation, and community engagement through reuse. We operate a non-traditional art supply shop located at the intersection of Wilkinsburg, Homewood, and Point Breeze, where people can donate used art and craft supplies, as well as shop for these unique items all in the same location. We also facilitate hands-on creative programming that educates the public about the benefits of reuse for the environment, community, and self.
