Experience new voices from the more than twenty-year journey of Cave Canem, with readings and performances by distinguished poetsAziza Barnes, Tyree Daye, Aricka Foreman, Adjua Gargi Nzinga Greaves, Kamden Ishmael Hilliard and Jayson Smith, with Marissa Johnson-Valenzuela (aka DJ Halfbreed) DJing. This evening celebrates Cave Canem’s legacy of fostering fearless writing, providing artistic and professional support, and building community for writers and readers of contemporary poetry. Cave Canem’s programs and publications expand America’s literary collection by making writings accessible, while pushing both poetry readers and writers to question the notion of what’s possible, and valuable, in a poem.

Aricka Foreman, author of  Dream with a Glass Chamber from YesYes Books, and Kamden Ishmael Hilliard, author of Perceived Distance from Impact from Black Lawrence Press , will lead an interactive writing workshop at KST’s Alloy Studios. Says Hilliard, “In this workshop we will consider what agency we lose and gain in the moment of naming. Sounds like a party, yeah?”
