“Combines a hip club sensibility with a balance-defying movement style that is all his own.”
—New York Times

Penn Avenue Creative Artist in Residence
As KST’s current Penn Avenue Creative Artist-in-Residence, Bill Shannon offers an in-process showing and conversation about Touch Update, a multidisciplinary work that combines movement, wearable projection technology and video installation to explore the significant and often subtle implications of physical human contact in the digital era.

Commissioned by KST, and scheduled to premiere in spring 2018 as part of KST’s newMoves dance festival, Touch Update gathers an all-star line up of Pittsburgh collaborators, including Ron Chunn, Teena Custer, Cornelius Henke, Anna Thompson and Taylor Knight, to dissect and dismantle the multiple online identities we create to mask and manipulate our lived experiences.

Part of Kelly Strayhorn Theater’s Penn Avenue Creative Artist-in-Residence Program, and supported by a fellowship with the Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry at Carnegie Mellon University.
Made possible with generous support from The Heinz Endowments, and the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
