Fresh Works Preview
Two highly regarded Pittsburgh musicians come together for a month-long exploration as part of KST’s Fresh Works residency program. Anthony Mitchell Jr has been steeped in traditional and contemporary African Diasporic folkloric music for the past 20 years. Noel Quintana is a percussionist and band leader of The Latin Crew, also known as “Mr. Conga,” who grew up surrounded by Afro-Caribbean music. Sharing research and exploring cross-genre collaborations, Mitchell and Quintana explore the histories of African people and music into the Americas, the ways that music has supported spiritual and cultural resilience and the the impact of Afro-Diasporic artistic expression on socio-political movements in Haiti, Cuba, Brazil, Trinidad, and the United States.
