MUTUAL AID RESIDENCY

PearlArts dancers see their completed space for the first time.
The nonprofit performing arts sector is facing numerous challenges. To combat these crises, KST has established the Mutual Aid Residency, partnering with like-minded organizations to share resources and work together to re-establish East Liberty as a hub for the Pittsburgh arts community.
Recently, we’ve been overjoyed to celebrate the next chapter for PearlArts Movement & Sound, who moved into their permanent studio space in Braddock after four years as a Mutual Aid resident. Watching their growth and artistic evolution has been truly inspiring! As we look ahead to Winter/Spring 2025, we’ll continue supporting our peer organization Dreams of Hope and warmly welcome Balafon, excited to witness the next steps in their journeys in KST’s Mutual Aid Residency.

DREAMS OF HOPE

Pittsburgh’s Leading Queer Youth Arts Organization
Dreams of Hope, founded in 2003, is Pittsburgh’s leading queer youth arts organization. Through the power of the arts, they center the expression and development of LGBTQIA+ young people.
While their core programs welcome young adults ages 13-26, Dreams of Hope also offers intergenerational spaces throughout the community, connecting youth, elders, and those in between. Their work advances a forever commitment to the authentic voices, self-determination, and liberated future of LGBTQIA+ people.

BALAFON WEST AFRICAN DANCE ENSEMBLE

Experience African Culture Up Close
In Winter/Spring 2025 season, KST warmly welcomes Balafon West African Dance Ensemble as the new Mutual Aid resident.
Balafon West African Dance Ensemble is a dynamic performance company celebrating the cultural contributions of women. Born out of a passion for African dance and community engagement, Balafon was founded by the late Mama Kadiatou Conte in 1997. Formally established as a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit in 2010, Balafon offers vibrant dance and music classes and is excited to create more enriching opportunities to experience the joyful spirit of traditional West African dance at KST’s Alloy Studios.
Stay tuned for Balafon’s programming at KST!
