Bring your loved ones to experience the traditional rhythms and dances of West Africa. Classes involve grounding full body movements accompanied by live percussion and the occasional vocal song. This intergenerational class offers invigorating adaptive exercise for people of all ages and abilities.


Yamoussa Camara was born in the village of Boke, Guinea, West Africa. There, he toured with Ballet Djoliba, Les Ballets Africains, and Merveilles d’Afrique. Yamoussa is the youngest lead drummer in Les Ballets Africains. In 1995, Yamoussa immigrated to the United States, where he continued touring and playing drums. Yamoussa currently teaches the African Drum and Dance Ensemble at the University of Pittsburgh and West African dance at Point Park University. Yamoussa also teaches drum and dance classes and workshops for adults and children, and performs with various ensembles in addition to his own ensemble Camara Drum and Dance.

Participants will sample the program through interactive demonstrations that introduce the theme and learning goals of each class offering. Open House attendance is not required for class registration.

Celebrate the 4 week Alloy School journey with our Showcase and Let’s Move! Family Dance Party on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at KST’s Alloy Studios on 5530 Penn Ave. It’s a one-hour public celebration of learning followed by a dance party for all!
