Scottish country dance is sometimes called “the ballroom dancing of Scotland” — it’s a social dance form in which square dancing and contra dancing have their origins. It is also a great form of exercise and aerobic activity. It is practiced worldwide — learn to dance here in Pittsburgh and you can attend social dance events the world over!
This series of classes will teach you the basic steps and formations used in Scottish country dancing and introduce you to some easy Scottish country dances like the ones you may have seen or joined in with during audience participation. Included will be briefing notes and links to resources after each class to help you practice on your own.
You don’t need special clothing, a dancing partner, or any former dance experience to have fun and learn in this class series. Come dance!
