Led by David Roussève and members of the dance/theater company REALITY, this workshop for all levels of dancers, movers and makers draws on the creative process and methodologies used in the creation of Roussève’s Halfway to Dawn, a multidisciplinary performance based on the music of Billy Strayhorn. After a brief warm up, Roussève shares the work’s unique fusion of modern, postmodern and jazz dance vocabularies, and offers dynamic phrase material as a foundation. Mirroring Roussève’s development process, workshop participants then manipulate that material to make their own dance and theatrical phrases, and create their own gesture- and task-based movement inspired by the emotional underpinnings of the music.
Open to all levels of movers and makers.
Presented in conjunction with performances of David Roussève/REALITY’s Halfway to Dawn, February 1 & 2 at Kelly Strayhorn Theater.
