Everybody, including dancers and music enthusiasts from beginners to advanced, is invited to immerse themselves in learning how to play instruments from the heartbeat of classical West African music in an intergenerational setting.
Led by musicians with generations of knowledge, classes authentically present instruments such as djembe, doundouns, kutiro, sabar drums, and the ensemble’s namesake balafon. Each class combines technical instruction with a cultural context, helping participants understand not just how to play these instruments, but their significance within West African communities, ceremonies and connecting with the culture in a holistic way.
