Trans*Voices Summit 2014

KST Presents

**UPDATE – TRANS*VOICES SUMMiT HAS BEEN POSTPONED**

Presented by KST & Garden of Peace Project

At the Trans*Voices Summit, participants will learn to develop their own story, our story, and an urgent story, while learning to teach others the same skills. Participants will learn about activism, advocacy, and organizing the community around the essential issues plaguing the larger community. Participants will attend the VIP Meet n’ Greet and Trans*Voices of Pittsburgh and Beyond show on Saturday evening; some of the participants monologues will be added to the show. On Sunday, we will do a debrief with the participants and do a few lasting encouraging activities for their final push to create the Trans*Voices of the city/town or replicate Trans*Voices of Pittsburgh in their city/town; thus beginning a trans* network.

Description

From Thursday, November 20, 2014 (Trans* Day of Remembrance) through Sunday, November 23, 2014 with the Kelly Strayhorn Theater. Through our networks and outreach efforts, we hope to host, a minimum, of 40 LGBTQIA (maximum: 65) individuals with a preference for trans*, organizers from around the US and abroad, especially Latin and South America, where an overwhelming majority of homicides against trans* individuals occur each year.

Objective

We will provide a safe space for the community to gain skills to engage the Self, in their own capacity, and to use the Self to empower and enrich their own life experiences and the life experiences of those around them. We have created four objectives:

  • To establish/contribute to the establishment of a trans* network around the U.S. and abroad.
  • To empower the trans* community and provide a space for the trans* community to have their voices heard.
  • To increase mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health among the trans* community.
  • Additionally, we will inform community leaders, professionals, service providers, students, and those seeking to provide safe spaces through this first-hand experience how to engage the trans* community.

On Saturday November 22nd, 2014, the Trans*Voices of Pittsburgh and Beyond Show has a very exciting line up in store for you!

Opening musical performers will be Jude Benedict and Kai Hunter. For this year’s performance, Garden of Peace Project has also invited 13 celebrities to be headline the show: Precious Davis, Angelica Ross, Valerie Spencer, Tiq Milan, Sasha Alexander, Cecilia Chung, Kristin Beck, Cherno Biko, Joanna Maria Cifredo, Katrina Goodlett, Alok Vaid-Menon, Janani Bala, and Lourdes Ashley Hunter! Local headliners are Mona Juelisa Whitley and Vianca Masucci.

Closing the show with an exclusive performance of Amazing Grace will be acclaimed mezzo soprano and violinist, Tona Brown, the first openly trans woman and first Black violinist to perform at the incomparable Carnegie Hall in New York City.

There will also be a VIP Meet n’Greet with our headliners at TANA Ethiopian Cuisine!
