Texture Contemporary Ballet – Synergy

Presented by Texture Contemporary Ballet

Texture Contemporary Ballet is in the midst of its fourth season and is excited to be making it’s debut at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater to present Synergy!

“Synergy is the creation of a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.” This is what this production will embody as the dancers perform as one.

The program will feature a wide range of different works. The four existing works which we will be presenting on this program are I Know, Cognitive Closure, The Writing on the Wall and These Pips are No Dead Hoofers. In addition to these works we will be presenting four world premieres. Choreographers for this program will include Texture’s Artistic Director, Alan Obuzor, who is a member of the 2013 Dance Magazine “Top 25 to Watch” list, Texture’s Associate Artistic Director, Kelsey Bartman, who is co-creator of WIP Choreography Project, Erin Halloran former principal dancer with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Alexandra Tiso, resident dancer with Texture, and Oscar Carrillo, graduate of Point Park University and new dancer with Rioult. This program will feature music by Fiona Apple, Balmorhea, Claude Debussy, Ludovico Einaudi, Duke Ellington, Philip Glass, Macklemore, Ryan McMasters, Maurice Ravel, and Max Richter.

The choreography will feature eleven resident and guest dancers of Texture Contemporary Ballet who will include: Charlotte Ahlstrom, Amanda E. Bailey, Kelsey Bartman, Jennifer Grahnquist, Jessica Kaplan, Darren McArthur, Katie Miller, Alan Obuzor, Christina Sahaida, Amanda Summers, and Alexandra Tiso.

This will be a show that you won’t want to miss!

Texture Contemporary Ballet is comprised of classically trained professional ballet dancers who have danced and trained at some of the top ballet companies and schools in America. Performers are brought together to create and present predominantly contemporary and neo-classical works. Texture strives to inspire dancers, teachers, directors, choreographers, audience members and artists of every kind, by presenting ballet in an innovative way. We believe it is important to break through preconceived notions that people may hold while witnessing ballet for the first time. Yet simultaneously, Texture fulfills the expectations of frequent theatergoers and those who are deeply submerged in the dance world. Therefore, Texture is both unique and inviting, while still upholding standards of technique and presentation.
