Exhalations Dance Theatre (EDT) is proud to present their newest body of work, Equinox. In the same vein as the Spring Equinox when the sun crosses the equator, EDT has fresh new works and a renewed outlook on their company, dancers and philosophy. The Equinox production will feature works from eight choreographers featuring 16 local dancers. Equinox will feature work by guest choreographer, Jake Casey, of New York City who’s choreography has also been commissioned by the Cincinnati Ballet and San Jose Dance Theatre. He recently performed with the Metropolitan Opera and was also a Vegas Finalist on America’s Got Talent. Casey will be debuting “Spectare Retro” with nine EDT dancers.

“Spectare Retro” deals with heightening emotions as we scan our memories and emotions that come flooding back. Casey admits that the emotions the dancers may convey and that the audience may feel can and should be unique to each individual and performance. Set to music by Chopin, he hopes to bring a fresh perspective to this classical piece.

Additional choreography to be featured include works by EDT’s co-directors, Katherine Mann and Lea Fosbenner, as well as Stephanie Anderson (Lincoln Park Performing Arts instructor), Nicole Monville (dance educator), Alyssa Bradly (videographer for Showbiz dance competition), Ebony Cunningham and Vicky Messino. These works are inspired by spatial design, dreams, personal struggle, growth, and the search for strength and freedom.

The title of this performance is not only extremely fitting for the time of year, but also represents the uniqueness of our company dancers. As a concept, Equinox represents rebirth and two sides of the same coin, much in the same way that EDT dancers represent complexity and authenticity. Exhalations dancers represent the duality concept in that they’ve trained their whole lives in dance and continue to perform the art of dance while pursuing a multitude of other careers throughout the region; they are also nurses, teachers, students, marketers, designers and even mothers, many of whom have had a rebirth of their passion for dance through our company.
