slowdanger :: physical integration (SPI) workshop
Sunday, August 25
Sunday / August 25, 2019
6:00 pm – 8:00 pm / KST’s Alloy Studios
5530 Penn Ave
slowdanger physical integration (SPI) is an explorational movement experience accompanied by an evolving sound score. Inspired by their studies in somatic practices, BodyMindCentering, Laban Movement Analysis, Movement Theater, Corporeal Mime, Gaga, improvisational methodologies and compositional studies, slowdanger guides participants to investigate non-verbal processing mechanisms through movement, groove, and sensory stimulus.
slowdanger will guide you through a warm-up using imagery and sensing to harness fluidity, dynamic and control in the body. Following, participants will move through improvisational states and compositional frameworks used within slowdanger’s choreographic process. Focus will be placed on honing specificity and finding freedom within the container of structured material. SPI is designed as an open-level practice. It challenges participants to explore connections to body, sound, and their environment. These connections are used to play, investigate, fail, fall, transform and regenerate.
slowdanger has facilitated workshops at Carnegie Mellon University, Point Park University, Slippery Rock University, Middlebury College, BAX, Gibney, Peridance, Painted Bride Arts Center, The Mattress Factory and more.
slowdanger is supported by The Opportunity Fund and Pittsburgh Foundation’s A. W. Mellon Grant. Additional support provided through residencies at Springboard Danse Montreal, The Space Upstairs, The Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry at Carnegie Mellon University and PearlArts Studios.
